Patrick Whaler is kind of a romantic notion of mine which is ultimately based on the family story of my great, great grandfather who, alongside his pal, stowed away on a ship desperately trying to escape 'dreary' Scotland only to be caught on route. They were then given the decision to either be chucked off in the middle of rural Scandinavia, or to work on the boat. And so began their time whaling.
